L&R Automotive was established in 1977 by Larkin Ranney Jr. Larkin had been working for several engine rebuilders before he decided to venture on his own. He felt that he could offer better service and product to the growing automotive industry. He opened the business out of his home garage selling engine parts and contracting out machine work on blocks and heads. As business took off he leased a 1000 square foot building to put inventory and to do daily business. After a few years he decided he would start looking for machinery to handle his own machine work so he can control the quality of work and keep from contracting out jobs. Starting with a single Sunnen rod heater Larking started to build his machine shop. As business progressed Larkin went from 1000 square foot building to 7000 square foot building, and started fill the building with machines. Now we are currently in a 10,000 square foot building filled up with your most modern equipment in the engine rebuilding industry.

We are family owned and operated since we opened our doors. Larkin’s sons, Derek and Brent have been both been working for the family business right out of high school. Now we have Derek Jr. a third generation working with us. We also have a great staff with many years experience and that can get the job done. Most of our employees have been with us for years and we feel they are like family. We take pride in doing a great job and giving good customer service.

The services we provide is everything from stock engine rebuilds, to street performance, vintage rebuilding, marine applications, or to all out race motors. We have a wide range of capabilities as to handle most any job. Our goal is to serve our customers.
